Quick, watch this new Tron video!

By Greg, March 9, 2010 7:38 pm

Hi all – again with the busy, and the writer’s block, and the hey, but just get your peepers on below video URGENTLY. It is imperative that you watch.

Sorry for ‘el crappio version-o,’ but this embed was all I could find in the 10 mins I had to look… Better version here.

Well, what did you think? Looks pretty awesome to me. To be honest, I was thinking a new Tron just wouldn’t work. Turns out I may have been wrong. Hudson may be right.

Mostly.

Check out my Dad’s blog – go on!

By Greg, February 22, 2010 6:36 pm

stay1 Hi all, I’ve been damned busy recently, due to a number of reasons all culminating in laziness. Actually, I wrote two posts in the last week or so, but I haven’t posted either… Because I chose not to. It’s likely neither post will see the light of day – one because it was pre-emptive, and the other because it was more personal than I intended. Anyway…

As a result of me not posting a damned thing, I’ve been feeling a little restless –I need to post something, but I’m in a bit of a slump. Thus, I added Skribit (see widget in sidebar), where readers can suggest something for me to post about. And I decided to write up this quick post inviting you to my dad’s website:

Newbegin Writing

In block quote form, no less. Why not?

Anyway, my old man writes about various things, and he makes me chuckle, but he also wrote a sci-fi novel. If you have some money burning a hole in your pocket, it might be worth your while to check it out.

Oh, and yes, I’m aware the site needs to be updated… I designed his site, so it’s all down to my laziness… Again… :) I think I’ll migrate the blog to replace the static site – it will be much easier.

So yeah… go to his site, buy his book, and pop a suggestion in skribit to the right. If you like.

Peace, and catch you soon with rad ideas.

Bring the people back to the cinema…

By Greg, January 25, 2010 6:41 pm

avatar-james-cameron It’s not so common for me to write about movies these days – with a baby, I get little chance to watch them. However, the wife and I decided to treat ourselves recently, so we went to see what al the fuss was about… We saw Avatar 3D, and we were duly impressed. In fact, it’s been a long time since I last walked out of a movie and was disappointed that it had ended. This is particularly impressive given the fact the movie goes for over 2 and a half hours…

Release more old school arcade games… and start with Crazy Taxi!

By Greg, January 20, 2010 7:58 pm

crazytaxiarcade With talk of the Dreamcast’s ‘Sonic Adventure’ coming to XBLA, as well as the announcement of the “Game Room” for old school arcade/console games (on PC/Xbox), my mind has wondered in recent days to the golden games of old. Well, not that old, but turn of the millennium. And I’ve come to the realisation that one game in particular (although there are many) is due for release on XBLA and PSN – Crazy Taxi.

Crazy Taxi, for it’s time, was a great game. Going back and playing it again now – it still stands the test of time, and above all, it’s virtually the PERFECT arcade game. There’s no need to invest any of your time in story or characters – you simply get in your car and drive (after, uh… choosing a character). Just drive! – In any direction – To beat the timer. The faster you can deliver your passenger, the more time you get, and the more money you make. Very simple mechanics, and much more fun than you think. It really lends itself well to the odd 20-minute stint on XBLA, and the trusty ol’ high score battle with your friends.

Game Room – exciting stuff for old-school gamers

By Greg, January 7, 2010 7:17 pm

Just a quick post to say that I’m excited – not in a long while has a video from a gaming/electronics conference made me excited enough to post here… But here it is. Xbox Game Room – a place to buy and share old school arcade games at a fairly low cost (click here for more info direct from Microsoft). Of course, you have to have an Xbox 360… or a PC running Games for Windows Live! I’m guessing you have a PC, so get excited, too!

Update: The old video I had posted wouldn’t work for some reason. hopefully I’ve fixed this with the below Youtube video!

PS3: PixelJunk Shooter

By Greg, December 28, 2009 8:00 pm

pixeljunk-shooter Yep – at first it seems an uninspired and crappy name, but you have to consider the fact that ALL of the PixelJunk titles have been a simple, single word, so it’s not all that bad. In fact, I’d almost go as far as saying the name was the worst thing about this title.

Almost.

I decided to fork out the AUS$12-odd to get this title when I was on my back last week with a ‘prolapsed disk’ – otherwise known as a damn sore back. I thought I needed a game to while away the hours. And I was not displeased with my decision.

Xmas gaming bargains

By Greg, December 26, 2009 2:40 pm

retro-pac-man-christmas-tree-madrid-0 If you like games, then it’s time to get out your crusty old wallet, but don’t expect to be spending all of your savings (particularly as it is likely you don’t have much this soon after Xmas) – there are bargains to be had!

I don’t know everything out there, of course, but here are the few bargains I’ve found in the past couple of days – all of which have raised the old eyebrows here and there, and a couple even made me throw some cash their way…

Tablet awesomeness

By Greg, December 8, 2009 8:21 pm

touchsmart My wife and I are both kind of tech geeks. Come evening time, and we both want to use the computer – for whatever reason. With a little baby, time on the puty is limited even more. As a result, I have little time to post here… Until now. This week, we splashed out on a new laptop.

To date, we’ve been using an 18.4” desktop replacement – an Acer 8930G. It’s an awesome system, but it’s heavy, and so not very portable. thus, we decided to get something more portable – but we also wanted something a little different. So we bought a tablet – HPs tx2-1316au, a multitouch Touchsmart unit. and it’s awesome.

Twitter – misunderstood, or just crap?

By Greg, November 29, 2009 3:28 pm

twitter Social networking has boomed in recent years – indeed, it is virtually the very definition of "Web 2.0" – yet not all social networking tools are as popular as others. Some of them, such as Facebook and Twitter, are quite common topics of conversation. However, they don’t receive the same attention for the same reasons – while "everyone" has a Facebook account and has tried at achieving the Bejeweled Blitz high score, society is divided on the usefulness of Twitter.

In fact, go ask someone what they think of Twitter. Invariably, they will tell you that they "don’t see the point" or "that’s what Facebook is for". Others will brush it off as a marketing tool, and still others will complain about it as a "way for nerds to talk about what they have for lunch". As a result of my own personal investigations, I’ve received all of these responses in the past week – and more. But why is that? Is Twitter really all that crap, or is it just misunderstood?

Before I take the hard line, I will add a little disclaimer to say that it is what it is – if it’s not something that sounds like it works for you, then it’s not going to be something you enjoy – much like anything else. However – I am firm in my assertion that Twitter is misunderstood.

Google Reader – UPDATE

By Greg, November 8, 2009 4:14 pm

Of course, right after I take the time to write up a post about Google Reader, it gets updated with some pretty major additions, so I thought it best to update my post rather than fall behind!
